Triple Podium Finishes for Performance Tech Motorsports at CTMP
Performance Tech Motorsports had a successful weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park as the team scored three podium finishes in the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge. Jonathan Woolridge earned a second-place finish at his home track in Race 1 on board his #38 Ligier JSP320s, with Alex Kirby securing back-to-back third place results in the #7 L.A. Prep Ligier JSP320s. Jordan Menzin, driver of the #18 Ligier JSP320s, also successfully completed his second full event in the series at one of the most challenging tracks on the calendar.
Woolridge and Kirby qualified third and fourth for Race 1, and they both began hunting down the frontrunners ahead around the high speed circuit. A short full course caution emerged with just over 20 minutes remaining, with green flag running resuming five minutes later. The duo had to contend with out-of-class traffic separating them from the Top 2, but their charge was halted by another full course caution in the final ten minutes, with the race ending under yellows.
However, following technical inspection and the application of post-race penalties, Woolridge was in turn promoted to a second place finish, with Kirby now stepping on to the podium in third.
“We had a strong, fast-paced car in this race,” said Jonathan Woolridge. “It feels great to be back on the podium, especially at my home track. I want to thank everyone who supported us throughout our weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The amount of friendly faces and fans that have come to say hi this week has brought me a lot of joy!”
Race 2 came with additional challenges to overcome as the unpredictability of the weather came into play. After a few laps of green flag running, the rain started to come down, bringing out a lengthy full course caution before all competitors came down pit lane to change tires. As the field returned to the track and the race returned to green flag conditions for the final laps. Kirby expertly handled the chaotic nature of the race and went on to claim his second podium finish of the weekend.
“What a crazy up and down weekend in Canada,” exclaimed Alex Kirby. “We came out of it with two third place results and I’m very pleased with the outcome. Thank you as always to everyone on the Performance Tech Motorsports team. I’m already looking forward to going again for the next round in August at VIR.”
As a newcomer to the series, Jordan Menzin was tasked with learning one of the most notoriously difficult circuits in North America, known for its fast layout and minimal braking zones. He drove cleanly across all sessions at CTMP, putting in a solid performance in Race 1, and masterfully navigating the treacherous weather conditions in Race 2, which was only impacted by a GSX competitor who made contact with him on the final lap.
"We're thrilled with our performance at CTMP,” expressed Team Owner Brent O'Neill. “Securing three podium finishes is great for us as a team, and serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication from our whole crew. We’re very proud of Jonathan, Alex, and Jordan for their exceptional efforts. We’re looking forward to carrying this momentum into the next round at VIR.”
Performance Tech Motorsports will be back on track for the next round of the IMSA VP SportsCar Challenge at VIRginia International Raceway from August 23rd to 25th, 2024.
