Hard Fought Third Place Finish for Performance Tech Motorsports

Performance Tech Motorsports welcomes its sixth podium finish in the last decade at the Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advance Auto Parts.

Team Principal Brent O’Neill has experienced more than his fair share of Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, but none quite like today.

“Wow, talk about a whirlwind race,” O’Neill said. “I think we experienced everything Sebring had to offer today; from dominating to being laps down and then ultimately finishing on the podium. Dan, Rasmus and Cameron absolutely killed it out there and the crew probably had their best series of pit stops ever. If we can repeat all of these controllable variables throughout the rest of the year I think it’s safe to say we have a good season ahead of us.”

Goldburg kicked off the event with a brilliant stint, starting in fifth place and handing the car over in first. His time in the car was hot and the track was gruesomely slippery causing a plethora of competitors to go off-roading; contrary, Goldburg stayed on track and on pace. From there Shields took the reins in first place maintaining it for the entirety of his three hour run.

As Shields hopped out for a well deserved rest, Lindh received his first taste of the race in an uneventful 40-minute stint. Next, Goldburg buckled down for what he knew would be a hot and hectic hour.  However, as he prepared to enter the second half of his stint the No. 38 faced an unavoidable mechanical failure in the drive line, the same issue that plagued it at Daytona International Speedway. The crew got the car back to the garage, repaired and back on track in fifteen minutes. This quick turn around set the team up for a six hour sprint to the finish with the podium in its sights.

The repairs proved successful and Goldburg was able to complete his stint before disaster struck once more. With Lindh installed in the No. 38 he was pushed from behind by another LMP3. This punctured his tire and broke his cheese wedge (an aerodynamic fixture on the rear of the car) sending him back down pit lane for repairs. As per the norm, the crew got him fixed and back on track in record time, maintaining fourth place.

From that point forward it was a race of attrition, Lindh managed traffic and watched as his fellow LMP3 competitors face problems of their own. He and Shields split the night stints, with Lindh electing to take on the final hour and a half of the event. After a brutal 12 hours he piloted the No. 38 over the line in third place.

The LMP3 class now takes a hiatus until May when it heads to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The weekend will feature both the No. 38 in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and the No. 6 in IMSA Prototype Challenge. Dan Goldburg, Driver of the No. 38 Ligier JSP320

“This is awesome,” Goldburg said “I've been coming to Sebring for 20 years. I started with club racing, then spectating the Twelve Hour with Performance Tech, now I’m here on the podium. It's huge. Also, I put in probably my best stint ever for the opening two hours. It was brutal, extremely hot but I pushed my way to the lead and held it for over an hour until the end of my stint. I'm super thankful for all that have supported me getting to this level. The whole Performance Tech team, Brent, my wife Liana, my family, my trainer Josh. So many have supported me and helped me get here and I thank you all!”

Cameron Shields, Driver of the No. 38 Ligier JSP320

“Really excited to take a podium here at my first race at Sebring International Raceway,” Shields said. “To be partner with Performance Tech was a bonus for me this weekend. They worked super hard the whole event. It was a faultless effort by the team. Unfortunately we had a mechanical issue that put us a few laps down, but other than that there wasn’t one mistake by the team the entire weekend. To be in that position makes it a lot easier on me being on track doing the driving side of things. Dan and Rasmus did a great job out on track keeping the nose clean and pushing to get us back in podium contention. I can’t thank everyone at CareEvolution enough for their support, it’s been tremendous this year. They’ve certainly made a tremendous impact on my career so for that I’m very thankful.”

Rasmus Lindh, Driver of the No. 38 Ligier JSP320

“We had a good start, the car was really fast,” Lindh said. “We had the lead for almost the whole first six hours. Then we had a small issue where we broke all the drive pegs and went seven laps down. The guys did an amazing job repairing the car. The pace was really good, we had the second fastest lap that was only 4/1,000’s off. It’s our first podium at Sebring together. The first podium in the Endurance Cup. Everyone did an amazing job. It’s really good to continue this momentum into the rest of the season, I want to thank Performance Tech, PWR Racing, SKF, Kak, Husvärden and Swedish National Team for the support.”
