Performance Tech Motorsports Targets Locked and Loaded on Win with New Watkins Glen Trio

Performance Tech Motorsports is on the hunt for its second win at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

After demonstrating outright pace at IMSA MICHELIN Endurance Cup Round 2, the 2017 and 2019 IMEC champions aim to dominate this weekend with the No. 38 Ligier JSP320. While the team is primed to win, its arrival at the event came with its fair share of trials and tribulations.

Following the engine failure at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course the team had to ship the unit to France as there were no spare parts in the country. The semi-complete engine arrived back in Florida on Monday, June 21, the day the truck had to leave for the event, with parts still due to arrive from France over the course of the week. As always, Team Principal Brent O’Neill’s crew will prevail, completing the install on Friday before IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship Practice 1.

“It’s great to be headed to Watkins Glen, especially because we did not think we would make the race due to a lack of motors in North America,” O’Neill said. “After we blew the No. 38’s motor at Mid-Ohio it became apparent that there were no spares for us, potentially for the next two months. Thankfully the guys in France were able to ship one on June 17 and my crew was able to hustle and get the car back together. We’re excited to get back into endurance racing after our dominant performance at Sebring before our engine issue. It’s safe to say we’ll be building on that with our eyes locked on a win this weekend.”

Among its many endurance championship accolades, the No. 38 topped the podium for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen in 2017. The team looks to use this knowledge and experience this weekend as it welcomes back Dan Goldburg, Mateo Llarena and Rasmus Lindh.

Full season IMSA Prototype Challenge driver Goldburg has stepped up to the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship for select races this year showcasing both grace and speed as he learns the ropes. After an impressive entrance at the Mobile 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, he went on to earn his first LMP3 class podium at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. With such a steep learning curve already demonstrated, it can be expected that Goldburg top the charts and possibly the podium this weekend during his Watkins Glen International debut.

The 17-year-old Llarena returns to North American racing after his breakout as a Lamborghini Junior driver in the Italian Gran Turismo series. This will be Llarena’s first time racing at Watkins Glen International, a challenge the youngster welcomes with open arms. Between the IMSA MICHELIN Endurance Cup and Italian Gran Turismo Llarena has collected a priceless amount of seat-time in the past 6-months making the transition to a new track a breeze.

Much like Goldburg and Llarena, Lindh enters the weekend with no on-track experience at the historic Upstate New York venue. This is nothing new for the young Swede as he acclimates to North American racing. In fact, some of his best battles to date have taken place during his debut at a track. Onlookers should expect a similar performance this weekend as he pushes to earn his second Motul Pole Award of the season in the No. 38.

The No. 38’s weekend begins Friday, June 25 with Practice 1 at 4:20 p.m. ET. Saturday, June 26, features Practice 2 at 8:00 a.m. followed by Qualifying at 12:40 p.m. The team wraps up the weekend on Sunday, June 27, with Warmup at 8:00 a.m., the Fan Walk at 9:30 a.m. and finally the green flag on the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at 10:40 a.m. The race can be viewed live through its entirety on NBC Sports Gold TrackPass. An abbreviated showing will be broadcast on NBCSN at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27. For ticket sales and schedule, details visit https://www.imsa.com/events/2021-sahlens-six-hours-of-the-glen/.
