Performance Tech Motorsports Welcomes in 2021 with Motel 6 at Daytona
Performance Tech Motorsports christened the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320 with Motel 6 leaders and guests this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.
The first weekend of the season is always a whirlwind as teams and drivers knock off the dust and fall back into a rhythm. Performance Tech Motorsports, however, arrived at IMSA Prototype Challenge Round 1 as a well-oiled machine, ready to excel above the competitors with support from Motel 6.
The team topped the charts in practice with drivers Rasmus Lindh and qualified in third place overall with Dan Goldburg. Goldburg and Lindh along with the crew were well prepared to win. Unfortunately, the No. 6 Ligier JS P320 had other plans.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow when you’ve done everything you can to produce a winning result and forces out of your control take you out of the race early,” Team Principal Brent O’Neill said. “Without a doubt Dan and Rasmus had the pace and skillset to bring home a win for Motel 6 today, but unfortunately a mechanical failure set them out of the race. All we can do is turn our focus and energy to Round 2 at Sebring to make sure we stand on that podium.”
Goldburg took the green flag for the one hour and 45-minute race and immediately began putting pressure on the competitors ahead. Four minutes into the race he made the pass for second place and was aiming for the lead when a full course caution was called.
Unfortunately, during this caution period Goldburg faced a mechanical failure within the throttle system. He was attempting to drive back to pitlane when the issue worsened and uncontrollably jettisoned into the wall with no way of stopping.
Weekends such as these highlight the true highs and lows racing offers to its competitors. It takes true team spirit and great partners like Motel 6 to prevail through all scenarios. The team now looks to Sebring International Raceway with high spirits and pure determination.
While the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320 is headed back to the Deerfield Beach headquarters the No. 38 Ligier JS P320 remains at Daytona International Speedway for the Motul Pole 100. The No. 38 will start third for this 100-minute race which serves as the qualifying event for the Rolex 24 at Daytona next weekend, Jan. 30-31. Dan Goldburg, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320
“I am terribly disappointed,” Goldburg said. “I was running in second place and comfortable in the car during the race. My goal was to turn the car over to Rasmus in the top three and I was on that path. The throttle stuck and I could not slow the car enough to make Turn 3 which caused the car to pull me into the wall hard.
“Thankfully, I'm fine. I have some soreness in my wrist but otherwise I am okay. I’m disappointed to start the season like this, but there is nothing we can do now but fix up the car and get after it at Sebring in March. I want to thank Motel 6 for supporting us and it was great to have them at the track. On to Sebring!”
Rasmus Lindh, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320
“We started off with very good practice times for me and then a really strong qualifying for Dan,” Lindh said. “We started the race and Dan got right up to second place and was doing great. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical issue right after that that ended our race. It was really great having all the Motel 6 people here this weekend. We couldn’t do any of this without them, so we are so grateful when they’re able to be at-track and support us. Now we look forward to Sebring.”
