Double Trouble
Performance Tech Motorsports is moving in for two weeks of racing at the World Center of Racing.
The Deerfield Beach based team is migrating north to Daytona International Speedway and kicking off its prolonged stay with IMSA Prototype Challenge Round One during the ROAR Before the 24. Following Round One the team will remain at the renowned racetrack to prep for the Rolex 24 At Daytona the following weekend, Jan. 29-31.
While some teams are worried about the two events being close together, Team Principal Brent O’Neill is looking on the bright side for the advantages it will present his team.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve had the Roar and the 24 weekend back-to-back,” O’Neill said. “This definitely presents a unique opportunity for teams and drivers because track time becomes more beneficial, but it also becomes riskier as you have less time to fix your car if it's damaged. My drivers are smart and consistent, and my team is thorough so I really think we can come out ahead at the end of the two weeks.”
“We always look forward to the Roar in particular because we get to kick off the season with all of our drivers, crew, and cars under one tent. We have Motel 6 back as a partner this year with Rasmus and Dan so we’re excited to see what they can do with the No. 6 while their teammates cheer them on.”
The No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320 will be making its second appearance at Daytona International Speedway in IMSA Prototype Challenge, this time in the newly formed Prototype 1 Class. The Prototype 1 Class features an evolved version of the 2020 Ligier JS P3 with an upgraded Evo kit and motor package allowing the cars to be significantly quicker than those in the Prototype 2 Class. Drivers Dan Goldburg, Delray Beach, and Rasmus Lindh, Gothenburg, Sweden, will once more share the No. 6’s seat in pursuit of the pair's first win and ultimately the championship.
Alongside the No. 6 the team will run the No. 38 Ligier JS P320 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championships' new LMP3 class. The car will feature a new lineup for the 2021 event with Mateo Llarena, Cameron Cassels, Rasmus Lindh and Ayrton Ori taking the reins. The 10-day event will allow the drivers to truthfully acclimate to one another before the twice-around-the-clock race on Saturday, January 30.
The team moves into Daytona International Speedway on Thursday, Jan. 21 for Media Day. It’s full steam ahead from there with 10 practices and three races across six days. For ticket sales, schedule details, and broadcast times visit https://www.imsa.com/events/2021-roar-before-the-rolex-24/.
