Performance Tech Motorsports Finishes Third at Mid-Ohio
Performance Tech Motorsports capped off its weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with champagne showers.
Performance Tech Motorsports claimed its second podium position of the year in IMSA Prototype Challenge with a third-place finish for the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier LMP3. All four of the team’s drivers showcased exemplary driving achieving the level of consistency necessary to succeed in the penultimate event. With only one race left in the season, the team now sits in fourth place in the championship with the potential to strike for the above positions.
Team Principal Brent O’Neill is ecstatic to not only see his men's hard work repaid on the podium but see the championship points deficit grow smaller as well.
“This was a really great weekend for us thanks to our drivers and our partners, Motel 6 and VB Enviro Care,” O’Neill said. “To finish on the podium here gives us the momentum we need heading into the final race at Road Atlanta. These guys gave it their all and we finally are seeing results. It’s time to buckle down and start working for the finale so we can hopefully get out first double podium and close up the final gap in the championship points.”
Driver Dan Goldburg had his best performance of the weekend in the No.6 Motel 6 Ligier LMP3. After qualifying in third position he took the green flag and immediately was on the defense. Time after time competitors from behind attempted to attack and in each instance Goldburg masterfully thwarted their efforts. He came into the pit lane with 57-minutes remaining to hand the No. 6 over to Rasmus Lindh in third place.
Lindh rode Goldburg’s momentum straight to the finish line. After he entered the race and quickly passed many slower competitors the only full-course caution of the race was called. Lindh used this to his advantage closing his gap to the ahead two competitors where he would finish in a close third place, closing Goldburg and the No. 6 prototype’s championship points gap and launching them into fourth place.
Cameron Cassels had another unwavering weekend in the No. 75 VB Enviro Care Ligier LMP3. He secured the sixth place starting position in qualifying to set him ahead of the green-flag drama that typically ensues at the rear of the pack.
After methodically picking off his competitors and with the No. 75 in third place Cassels placed the reins in Max Hanratty’s hands. Hanratty faced adversity almost immediately as he entered the race with the leaders directly behind him. He overcame all thrown his way bringing the car home in tenth place overall.
Next, the team heads to MICHELIN Raceway Road Atlanta for the IMSA Prototype Challenge season finale Oct. 15-16. It’s two Ligier LMP3 entries are joined by the No. 38 Centinel Spine LMP2 for the Motul Petit Le Mans taking place on Saturday, Oct. 17. Dan Goldburg, Driver of the No. 6 Motel Ligier LMP3
“I'm very happy to bring home a podium for Motel 6 and Performance Tech Motorsports,” Goldburg said. “The team gave us flawless cars. I had my hardest stint of my race career with Rao on my tail for nearly half of my stint. I knew that was a key position, so I fought hard to stay ahead. Rasmus drove a great stint as well to bring it home in 3rd. This podium is very meaningful because it's our first working directly with Motel 6. We couldn't do this without them and it's so important to me that we drive value for them. Getting on the podium is the best thing we can do for them!”
Rasmus Lindh, Driver of the No. 6 Motel Ligier LMP3
“I am very happy,” Lindh said. “I’m also proud to have Motel 6 as a sponsor on the car this weekend. I think for Road Atlanta I know the things I need to work on so we can be even stronger.”
Cameron Cassels, Driver of the No. 75 VB Enviro Care Ligier LMP3
“Mid Ohio is a tough track to get a good read on and I definitely felt that today,” Cassels said. “Overall I just was not patient enough and over drove some sectors which really never put Max and I into a position to challenge for a podium. As we head into the final round of an absolutely crazy 2020 it is all about focusing and pushing like hell! The first two rounds at Daytona and Sebring were incredibly positive with opportunities for a strong podium during each race. So, as we head into Road Atlanta we will be working hard to get back to that level of performance.”
Max Hanratty, Driver of the No. 75 VB Enviro Care Ligier LMP3
“There were a lot of ups and downs for us this weekend,” Hanratty said. “Mid Ohio is a tough track as conditions are always changing. It’s extremely important to adapt your driving style to give the car what it wants with the given grip level. It wasn’t my best performance in the race when it came to that so focus is there for the next one.”
“It’s been a rough year for Cam and me. We’ve had a lot of bad luck and haven’t been able to achieve the results we’ve been looking for. I’m looking forward to going into Atlanta with our best foot forward and trying to end the year on a high.”
