Performance Tech Motorsports Successfully Completes Third Round of IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge at Mid-Ohio with Three Car Effort
Performance Tech Motorsports returned to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this past weekend for the third round of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, successfully completing the event with a three-car lineup consisting of full-season driver Alex Kirby in the #7 L.A. Prep Ligier JSP320s, accompanied by Jonathan Woolridge and Jordan Menzin in the #38 and #18 Ligier JSP320s.
All three drivers took on the Lexington-based track for the first time as a part of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge championship, utilizing Friday’s two practice sessions to learn the complexities of the undulating circuit in preparation for the two races. The Performance Tech Motorsports crew was hard at work, experimenting with various setups for each car.
Alex Kirby demonstrated strong consistency as he battled in the Top 5 in both Race 1 and Race 2, going wheel-to-wheel in intense multi-lap fights with other competitors. Notably, he accumulated 510 points in total across the weekend. He currently sits fifth in the LMP3 class championship and remains well within striking distance to the Top 3 in the standings.
Jonathan Woolridge was also involved in numerous on-track battles, gaining further experience in the series as he added a new circuit to his repertoire. The young driver continued to display good pace and demonstrated his race craft as he tactfully navigated around close calls from GSX class competitors.
The event also marked Jordan Menzin’s debut in the series and in IMSA competition. He showcased great adaptability and composure, completing both races at one of the most challenging locations on the calendar. Additionally, he set a very competitive lap time in the Qualifying session, which saw him starting from fourth on the grid for Race 1.
“This weekend was a great opportunity for the development of our drivers,” explained Team Owner Brent O'Neill. “Mid-Ohio is a notoriously challenging track with a lot of different components to learn. Our drivers showed steady progression throughout the event and we have a lot of positive takeaways from the weekend, including scoring important points for the championship standings.”
The team is now greatly looking forward to the upcoming round taking place at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, a track in which they have seen a great deal of prior success. In last year’s event, Jonathan Woolridge secured the victory in Race 1 in front of a home crowd, with Alex Kirby earning a third place finish in Race 2. As they return for this year’s edition, they will both be looking to repeat and expand upon their previous achievements.
Performance Tech Motorsports will return for the fourth round of the IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge championship in one month’s time as the team heads north of the border to the Bowmanville circuit from July 12th to 14th, 2024.
