Performance Tech Motorsports Doubles Down for Penultimate Challenge

Performance Tech Motorsports levels up for the penultimate weekend of IMSA Prototype Challenge.

The veteran prototype team is headed to VIRginia International Raceway armed with two Ligier JSP320s, ready to battle for the second-to-last time in 2022. The program is doubling in size with the addition of the No. 7 Cannonball Storage Ligier JSP320, the perfect complement to the No. 6 Ligier JSP320. Team Principal Brent O’Neill believes in strength in numbers and is eager to see what this duo will achieve.

“It’s always great when you can get multiple team cars out on track together,” O’Neill said. “We’ve always been strong at VIR but having a second car and a second set of drivers to bounce ideas off of and provide feedback really amplifies our setup strategy, especially with such a small amount of track time. We have a few new faces to the series this weekend, but they know how to be patient and keep their noses clean so I’m excited to see what everyone can do this weekend.”

In the No. 6 Ligier JSP320 Oscar Bitar will once more be joined by Dan Goldburg. Bitar has spent months preparing for this event, maximizing any and all track-time and workouts available to him. Goldburg returns to VIR fresh off his 2021 IMSA Prototype Challenge breakout win at the track in the No. 6 ready to push for repeat results this weekend.

The No. 7 Cannonball Storage Ligier JSP320 is new to the team for this event and features two fresh faces, Chris Allen and Robert Mau. Allen has spent years racing in large fields and on the tight and technical Nürburgring Nordschleife, two factors that will set him up for success at the rolling, green circuit in Danville, Virginia. Mau’s resume boasts near identical accolades to Allen’s, featuring a season in NASA and races at Nürburgring Nordschleife making them complementary teammates in a variety of ways.

Performance Tech Motorsports’ weekend at VIRginia International Raceway kicks off on Friday, August 26 and runs until Sunday, August 28.  The event serves as the penultimate round for the challenge series, proceeded shortly thereafter by the finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, September 28-October 1.
