Trading Places: Whole New Driver Lineup for the No. 38 at Road America
Performance Tech Motorsports is on-track to add to its impressive result resume at Road America.
The No. 38 CardioAccess Ligier JSP320 has a long-standing record of success at the historic track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, finishing no lower than third place since 2016. To ensure this trend continues to team has enlisted long-time Performance Tech driver and Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native James French to drive the No. 38 alongside the team’s 2022 endurance driver, Cameron Shields. This late driver pairing change comes after full-season driver Dan Goldburg was faced with a last-minute conflict that he cannot miss.
Team Principal Brent O’Neill is excited to see what this new pairing can pull together at one of the team’s favorite tracks.
“Having James in the car was already putting us ahead going into the event,” O’Neill said. “With Dan not able to make the race the next obvious choice was Cameron; he’s quick, keeps it clean and is already familiar with the car. It’s a shame we won’t have Dan here this weekend, but he has personal and business things that can’t be missed, which as a family-centric team we totally understand. I think this new pair is going to be stellar and will really light it on fire out there this weekend.”
Driver French has played a part in all the team’s podium finishes (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021) at the track since 2016, making him integral to success this weekend. Combined with his co-driver Shields’ fast-paced mastery of the Ligier JSP320 this season, the pair promise to put on a show at the 14 turn, 4.048-mile course. Based on the duo’s knowledge, race craft and determination the team feels revitalized as it pushes for its first victory of 2022 this weekend.
You can catch the No. 38 CardioAccess Ligier JSP320 on track starting Friday, August 5. The IMSA Fastlane Sportscar Weekend is always a fan favorite, featuring activities for fans of all ages.
