Podium Finish for No. 6 Motel 6 Machine at Watkins Glen
Performance Tech Motorsports is celebrating a third-place finish at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
The No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JSP320 faced a wild race at Watkins Glen International for IMSA Prototype Challenge Round 4. The one hour and 45-minute event featured sporadic rain showers and abundant carnage from competitors as the majority of the field made its Watkins Glen International debut. Under these conditions drivers Dan Goldburg, Rasmus Lindh and the entire team are ecstatic to bring Motel 6 to the podium for the second time in 2021.
“I’m really proud of how Dan and Rasmus did out there,” Team Principal Brent O’Neill said. “These past 24 hours have been really rough with the changing conditions, but they took the race and ran with it. Dan and Rasmus had a couple of incidents that slowed us down, but we undoubtedly had winning pace. Next up is to get Motel 6 their first win.”
Goldburg had the honors of starting the No. 6 for the one hour and 45-minute event after qualifying it on the second row. His stint saw wild driving by competitors with cars pirouetting and crashing from the drop of the green flag. Goldburg demonstrated practiced race craft. throughout the entirety of his 45-minute battle, keeping his nose clean and his lap times low.
Lindh took the reins with 55 minutes remaining during the second full course caution of the race. An incident with lapped traffic caused damage to his front dive plane thwarting his usual sprint through the field. He persisted through erratic rain as if the damage and conditions were inconsequential bringing the No. 6 over the finish line in third place
The No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JSP320 now has a prolonged break with Round 5 taking place October 8-10, at VIRginia International Raceway. The event was originally slated to take place in August, however had to be moved due to an abundance of driver conflicts. QUOTE BOARD
Dan Goldburg, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JSP320
“I’m happy with these overall results,” Goldburg said. “I had a bit of a scrappy session and struggled getting past cars I was faster than, but I was able to make up good time at the end of my stint before handing it to Rasmus. I actually was behind a competitor for a while and was coming up on them in the bus stop when I lost the car. That definitely is my move of the day because I was able to put it in reverse and get back out on track without losing a position. From there I had to push to make up lost time. I was able to jump into the pits quickly during a yellow to hand it over to Rasmus. Rasmus had a bit of damage that slowed the car down during his stint but overall, I’m happy with today’s results.”
Rasmus Lindh, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JSP320
“I think today was pretty good,” Lindh said. “We had a few incidents, but we got back into it. The dive plane was broken, and the floor was scraping the ground, but we kept going. We really needed a podium after our bad luck at Mid-Ohio, so this was good.”
