Second Place Finish for Motel 6, Performance Tech, Goldburg and Lindh
Performance Tech Motorsports welcomed a second place finish in conjunction with Motel 6 at Sebring International Raceway.
Performance Tech Motorsports always enjoys racing at its home track, particularly with IMSA Prototype Challenge, a series the team has always been dominant in. This weekend was no exception as it prepared for IMSA Prototype Challenge Round 2 with its eyes on a third podium finish for partner Motel 6. The team relished in its success, against all competitors' attempts, ending the weekend with a second-place trophy.
“This race was crazy,” Team Principal Brent O’Neill said. “It’s a shame it wasn’t broadcast because from start to finish Dan and Rasmus had to partake in wild situations to earn their finish. That being said, our drivers went out there and did exactly what they needed to do and I couldn’t be prouder. This is a great showing for Motel 6 and we’re excited to see what the next race brings.”
Dan Goldburg had a stellar start to the weekend qualifying the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320 in second place. While the start featured its fair share of chaos Goldburg stayed calm and pushed onward. He maintained position while building a gap to the third-place competitor putting the No. 6 in a prime podium position.
Rasmus Lindh took the reins from Goldburg at the ideal time as he exited the pits immediately before a full-course caution. From there the Swedish superstar was able to put pressure on ahead competitors with his aim locked on the top three steps.
A spiteful competitor refusing to serve his drive through penalty for improperly passing Lindh under yellow, would stay on track running a slower pace in front of Lindh, causing him to lose 9 seconds to the leader. He proceeded to carry the consistent and clean race pace earlier demonstrated by Goldburg and bring the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320 home in second place, earning the group its third podium finish in five races.
Next up for the team is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Presented by Advanced Autoparts next weekend, March 18-20. Both Lindh and Goldburg will be taking on endurance driver duties for the event in pursuit of the teams' third Twelve Hour of Sebring win. Dan Goldburg, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320
“That was a tough end to the race as we got purposely held up by the car ahead,” Goldburg said. “It had passed us and the No. 7 under yellow but refused to pit for its penalty. It then proceeded to hold us up for nine seconds creating a major gap to the leader. We had to work with race control in order to get them to actually serve the penalty. After that Rasmus got to work making up time but there was just too large of a gap to the leader. It’s still great to finish on the podium with Motel 6, let’s hope for better sportsmanship at Mid-Ohio!”
Rasmus Lindh, Driver of the No. 6 Motel 6 Ligier JS P320
“I’m really happy with the team and the good result,” Lindh said. “This was not fully what we wanted but we were close. We did have the pace all weekend and our engineer Nathan Toney always does a good job with setup on the car to keep me and Dan happy. Now all eyes and focus turn to the 12 Hours of Sebring. Thank you, Performance Tech Motorsports and Motel 6, for this opportunity!”
