Triple Threat
Performance Tech Motorsports is set to field three entries at the virtual Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Notorious for being one of the largest teams in the paddock, Performance Tech Motorsports is keeping the tradition alive during the IMSA iRacing Pro Series. The invitational event features 50 hand-selected drivers, three of which will be sporting the Performance Tech Motorsports’ logo. Drivers Kyle Masson, Cameron Cassels, and Dan Goldburg are gearing up for 90 minutes at the virtual 15 Turn, 2.4-mile track at 6:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 30.
Masson, Windemere, will be behind the wheel of the No. 38 BMW M8 sporting a throwback livery of the teams 2018 Centinel Spine Oreca LMP2. Masson has a long-standing history with simulator racing most recently being invited to partake in the Road and Track Simulator Experience in Los Angeles. Masson has also spent a sizeable amount of his free time donating simulators to children’s hospitals as well as teaching the patients how to race.
Cassels, British Columbia, can be spotted in the red and black No. 75 BMW M8. After partaking in the last event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Cassels is hungry for more. He finished an impressive 28th, ahead of top names in the sport. Having had his Class ‘A’ License for just a few weeks Cassels is leaving a wake of competitors behind him as he picks his way to the top of the field.
Goldburg, Delray Beach, is making his IMSA iRacing Pro Series debut in the No. 6 blue and red Motel 6 BMW M8. While new to the IMSA sanctioned series Goldburg is no rookie to simulator racing. He boasts 12 years of simulator racing buying his first rig in 2008 to practice for IMSA Prototype Lites. Since then he’s included simulator racing into his pre-race routine to learn the track and car to the best of his ability before arriving for a race weekend.
Performance Tech Motorsports is treating this invitational series like they would any race weekend. Each car is armed with an engineer and spotter to ensure the driver has maximum support during the race. It is a learning curve for all parties involved as they begin to navigate the virtual landscape and learn how to verbalize what the car is doing.
The green flag falls at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Thursday, April 30 at 6:00 p.m. ET. The sprint race will be streamed live on iRacing’s YouTube channel, Twitch or Facebook with commentary from IMSA Radio announcer John Hindhaugh. Pre- and post-race programming also is planned for The Torque Show, hosted by Justin Bell and Tommy Kendall.
